It's late Monday afternoon, and looking back, it feels like it's been a productive day. Was supposed to bring Mom to a reflexology session, but it didn't work out. So I ended up doing Dad's laundry and dealing with the usual online stuff. Am current with e-mail and Twitter, so it's just LiveJournal and feeds to review. May put aside the feeds and just review LiveJournal instead, seeing as how I want to get in some knitting time.
My heart goes out to the US football team - losing 3-2 against Brazil! From what I understand it was 2-0 at half-time, favoring the US, and then Brazil came back like the proven champions they are. Still, the US managed to beat teams that have ruled football for ages on end; so now they get some respect, goddamn, to use ontd_speak. Someday, they are going to win something, and then they will have the GQMF status that will give the fans lots of fun for days on end.
The weather has shifted from rain unending to blazing heat. Given that we are entering July, the month of thunderstorms, it is to be hoped that the heat will last until all the week's laundry is done and dried, at which point, rain will be a welcome thing.
Weekend didn't have that much to talk about, just one social event - the 40th day Mass for Dad's golf crony. We were able to visit Tito Solly at Cardinal Santos Hospital some time ago, and I'm glad we had a chance to see him before he passed away on May 19th. We were a bit shocked to discover this fact the week before the Mass, which was scheduled for Sat/Jun-27. Left the house at about five minutes to 10AM for a Mass scheduled to start at 10AM - *dies* - took the SLEX straight to the Merville exit, and somehow managed to arrive at the church before the (concelebrated) Mass started. *blink* During the sermon, I thought it was a pity that the priest with the clearer voice wasn't the one to give it, because the sound system was a bit fuzzy around the edges.
Dad found one of his golf cronies during Communion - and only my father would think of introducing me to Dr. Rivera while I was walking down the aisle *after receiving the Host*. *dies*
At the lunch reception after the Mass, we found ourselves seated with Dr. Rivera and Dad's former Insular Life buddy Mr. Gorgonia. Made friends with Mr. Gorgonia's daughter, who is in charge of the Insular Life clinic at the old building in Makati. Have a standing invitation for a free consultation and lunch now. *smile* The food was good - kudos to the caterer for carrying off the service so well.
Sunday (yesterday), refilled Ramon's prescriptions and did a little grocery shopping. The big event was brunch at UCC Fort, where I got another stamp towards my UCC Gold Card. I am *this* close to getting it, as I have but one stamp left before turning the temporary card in for processing. Ramon liked the brunch (which we split) but not the pricing - but regrettably, food that is not fast usually costs more. Fortunately, yesterday was a treat for ourselves, so it's not likely that the stamps I started collecting in 2007 (!!!!!) will be completed before July 2009 at the rate we are going.
We stay home a lot these days. The best way to save money is not to put oneself in temptation's way - and so we only go out when we have to. This is usually once a week, to the grocery. Besides, a long hard look at my closet brings home the point that I have enough clothes to wear for at least another two years or so (and that I did not wear my new shoes to the event last Saturday now dawns on me).
Feeling blah. Hormonal shifting, I presume. Either that, or my focus wants to be on my offline life for the time being. Whatever, I'm going to roll with it. Dinner's almost up, so I'll stop here. More news whenever...

June 2009 is on its last legs, and today on the news, I saw the Michael Jackson had died. His is the latest in a series of celebrity deaths for the month, starting with David Carradine, continuing with Ed McMahon, then Farrah Fawcett a mere five hours before his own. *shakes head* One can almost feel the era ending in front of one's eyes.
So much is changing around me, that this latest news brought back the lyrics of one of my favorite songs from the 5th Dimension, called Ashes to Ashes:
They're tearing down the street They're paving concrete Ashes to ashes, dust to dust Ashes to ashes, dust to dust Between the demolition of the old Glorietta and the Gilarmi Apartments, the changing skyline of Mandaluyong, Quezon City and Makati; all the techno stuff that somehow we're all learning to not live without; and now the passing of the icons of my youth, there are days when I feel my age. Not in a physical sense, but in terms of life outlook. It's complicated, as they say on Facebook. Or maybe not really that complicated, until you try to say in words what you already know in your head. In which case, silence may truly be golden - why confuse yourself when you've got it all straight already? As the saying goes, "if it's broke, don't fix it".
It was interesting seeing CNN_US take over from CNNi. Wall-to-wall Michael Jackson coverage! I must say, after a while, the constant focus on MJ does lead to a sort of burnout. The man was definitely a nonpareil - there's no one can argue that the music is an impressive body of work, and the songs will be sung for a very, very, very long time indeed. However, all those hours, and not even a side mention of what else might be going on in the world? Oh my. Good thing CNNi broke in with headlines around the world and eventually took their airtime back. It's nice to know that there is life outside of Los Angeles, after a while. I liked how CNN-HK had Anna Coren doing her live shot to CNN-London from outside the studio, with the breezes of Victoria Harbor playing with her hair. Wish I knew what location that was; the Renaissance has a similar view over the harbor.
I should go down for a nap. I am actually fairly current with my Twitter feed, and finished reading my e-mail for the day. Working on LJ-Inbox and the gazillion posts that accumulated since yesterday - but will break to rest my eyes first. Catch you all later!
Where I grew up
Like pouring brandy
In a dixie cup
On a part of me
No crime for killing off
A memory
Can you find the Milky Way
Long Tall Sally and Tin Pan Alley
Have seen their dying day
It'll never be the same
But we're all forgiven
We're only living
To leave the way we came

Got back from the mall a couple of hours ago, and am dashing off a quick update before the dinner summons.
Dentist appointment went well. No cavities, for which we say "huzzah"! However, gums are a wee bit unhappy - must floss more, I suppose, and take my vitamins more regularly.
Today is the 6th consecutive month that Ramon has managed to stay out of the hospital. This is a thing to be extremely grateful for, I think you will all agree. We celebrated life at the Glorietta food court, talking about little things, and enjoying the food.
Paid membership fee for credit card. That was nice.
Strolled around the SM Department store, and once I realized I didn't need to buy anything. So down to the Concourse, where I popped into the supermarket to restock the chibi food. It would seem that they are all partial to the Whiskas food pouches; so I bought a lot of those, and some small tins of mackarel and salmon in brine. Pie-kitten is growing by leaps and bounds, and is not -yet- a fussy eater. *grin* In short, she (and I'm pretty sure Pica has given us a girl) is omnivorous.
I discovered three new flavors of Del Monte's Fit-n-Right juices: blueberry-grape, watermelon, and grapefruit. There is a theory about, that drinking two bottles a day of said juices helps in the losing of weight. Am sort of trying it. Though I can drink enough water to float Old Ironsides, if it comes to that - I am a waterbaby. I can tell when I'm going dry because my lips chap in airconditioning; and that's a warning sign to drink to the lees. *nods* At cocktail parties, I'm the one who perishes with the rinky-dink servings of water that are distributed. Give me my one-liter bottles at regular intervals during an event, and I will last till the wee hours.
Got home, unpacked and put away groceries. SM Makati revamped its bakery, and I came home bearing ensaimada and brownies. Ma and I had our afternoon snack, but not before I made the rounds making sure our felines got their snacks first! (I really need to take a picture of Pie-kitten when she's looking straight at me - that crooked mustache of hers is a guaranteed "awww" inducer.) Had a piece of ensaimada, a brownie, and fresh-brewed coffee. YUM.
Have finished reviewing e-mail, and downloaded a mobile Twitter client which I will try to install later. I now have to finish a CNN program survey, and then catch up with feeds and LiveJournal, or Twitter. Tomorrow is rest day; Saturday the family jaunts off to Merville for a special Mass for one of Dad's former office/golf cronies who passed away last May 19.
More news if I can extract myself from catching up on things to write it. Otherwise, y'all will have to make do with microblogs a while!
