Just checked my journal and it's been a while since I put up a proper post, instead of just tweets. I think this may yet be the longest stretch of nothing since my last vacation. ::smile::
Basically, I've been tweaking stuff on the iBook. I changed browsers from Flock to Firefox, and put up a whole slew of extensions. I use Firefox as my feed reader now, which is a bit clunky, but then again, having to refresh 244 feeds in one go (fortunately not all of them live) would render any self-respecting browser clunky. NewsFox is a good extension though, and works perfectly fine.
Then there's Yoono. A bit of a lag when posting to Twitter on the interface, otherwise, it seems rather cool.
On the medical front, Ramon got a clean bill of health from his last checkup. ::bounce:: AND we lucked into a set of discount coupons for one of his prescriptions. 50% off if you buy 7 tablets in one go, which suits us fine, since we buy a week's worth of pills every time we refill his prescription.
Which brings me to a question. I read somewhere that because most people buy their tablets per piece (due to our craaaazy economic situation), more often than not, the expiry date falls by the wayside. So let's say I buy six tablets today but only use three and keep the others - if I inventory my pill stash at a future date, unless I have a tablet with the embossed expiry date, I could never know if the pills are still safe for consumption.
However, I've noticed that when my local drug store dispenses loose pills, they put 'em in these little cardboard boxes and write down the expiry dates by hand. Would it really be such a stretch to do the same for loose pills (say six pieces or more - because if it's only one or two, then it might be safe to assume that the person would consume them as soon as they got a glass of water)?
I could almost wish we had the same system as I've seen in Stateside drugstore ads: plastic bottles you can bring back for refills, with labels to show the tablet specs. That would be all sorts of nice. Or maybe not plastic, but sturdy cardboard would do just fine.
Dad, on the other hand, is a whole other kettle of fish. Ma and I have given up trying to figure out why a man, who was given a clean bill of health from every doctor he's seen, continues to complain that one thing or another is wrong with him. It's as if he's seeking validation that something is wrong with him...but he doesn't want to go to outpatients for a check because he doesn't want to spend the money. He prefers to call the doctors and get a consult over the phone, which makes me go ?????
Yesterday he wanted to contact Ramon's cardio to get a referral for the kidney specialist Tito Jake consults. I pointed out that (a) it was a Saturday, and (b) real doctors have clinic days, and (c) if it was really making him feel that miserable, ER-outpatients was the best option. In which case they could either find something wrong, or not - in which case he would be grumbling about spending money for nothing.
So there was much grumbling about kidney pains, then he goes and drinks Maalox and all was well with the world.
::facepalm::
Mahirap talaga magpalaki ng magulang. ::grin::
(Trans: It's a play on words - it can mean, "It's hard to raise kids to be sensible," or "It's hard to raise parents.")
I have seen quite a bit of the malls, since I am one who would always want to go to at least three places in order to justify the use of the car, gas prices being what they are. I have managed to keep my yarn addiction in check, thanks to the clear bins that show me exactly how much of my stash needs to be knit. ::chuckle::
So of course I spent good money on a couple more pairs of knitting needles and gadgets. HAAAAY NAKU BAGSAK. (Trans: TSK TSK FAIL)
The sock project pleases hubby mightily. I realized that I wouldn't have enough gold yarn for two whole socks, so I combined the gold cuff and heel with purple for the foot and toes. (Yes, pictures forthcoming.) Ramon likes the combination, calls them "LA Lakers" socks. He has sworn to wear them everywhere. @.@ I suppose at some point, I will learn toe-up socks - but till then, I'll finish this pair and try something flat again.
I realized that one of the other things I want out of life, aside from the chance to travel abroad by myself (well, in a tour group, but just me without hubby or parents), and a scooter? Is to have a room in the house that I can call my "studio". A place where I can cross-stitch, crochet, knit, write or internet in peace. Where I can store all my craft stuff and books without looking like a mad professor.
At this point, the scooter is the more attainable goal. And probably a lot more practical than spending for a techno toy (eeePC 20GB, I'm looking at you)! ::considers:: Yes, definitely more practical in this day and age. Will have to spend more time considering prices and such - because of course, I'll need a helmet and such to go with the scooter.
If only getting to Ortigas via scooter wasn't such a hairy proposition, I would so be at the motor shop this minute. ::grin:: But one thing I know, if you dream of something and plan for it and don't listen to the wet blankets (as opposed to the rational voices of people you love and trust), you will get it eventually. That, or something more in keeping with your needs in life. So we'll see.
But in any case, I want a dark blue scooter. LOL.
So much for that. I've got to do stuff now...it's a lovely Sunday morning. Hope the Stateside gang had a great July 4th, and a safe one. Catch you when I catch you!
:)

(no lj-cut. posting from mobile phone.)
so here ramon and i are: at the docotr's office, waiting for kind dr. gatmaitan. it's time for ramon's monthly checkup, and we are drowsy. had to wake up fairly early to be at the parking lot in time to get a slot near the back entrance.
left knitting at home, since the sock is at the heel stage and i need internet to follow diagrams. so blog it is for the moment.
dr. g hasn't moved into new office on the first floor. just when we thought we could skip the elevators this month. ::shrug:: ah, well.
yesterday was a rest day, sort of. spent the morning re-arranging my filing corner. am of the belief that as it stands, decor is totally wasted in the office area. i filed, believe it or not, four months' worth of billing statements and threw out obsolete papers. really, i discovered lots of expired junk, i did.
after that, a hot shower got me clean again, then i knitted and generally turned into a veggie for what was left of the day. felt good.
the more i think about it, the more i want a scooter. hubby pointed out that ma won't agree, and that we have a perfectly good car. still, i want a scooter. it would be perect for those sudden trips to the mall or the clubhouse or the bank.
pity about the chaotic traffic. a scooter would be just perfect to go to ortigas with. but someday it might just be possible.
meep. need washroom. will try and update later.
- 21:29 loving the feel of being *clean* after a hot shower to wash off a day's worth of dust and humid stickiness.
- 21:31 hubby's blood test was today. after jollibee breakfast, bought veggies at Legaspi Organic Market and dropped them at home.
- 21:33 freshened up, then went to Glorietta. hit up National Book Store, Dreams, SM Makati (Surplus Store, Supermarket). lunch at Max's.
- 21:34 last stops: BPI Santuario to actually make a deposit, and Mercury Drug to refill hubby's prescriptions.
- 21:35 home again, to knit, have dinner, knit, close up house, have HOT SHOWER FTW. now catching up on online life and half of CSI season-ender.
- 21:55 dear Lord. even after being spoiled for the CSI season ender? I *still* didn't see it coming...ergh!
- 21:59 wondering if I should go through feeds now, or wait until tomorrow. ::shrug:: will see how far I can get tonight. :)
- 23:13 got through all the feeds, which means I've swept through most of LJ-land as well. and it's not even midnight yet - time to get to bed.

- 13:51 learning how to use dpns=double pointed (knitting) needles. hopefully a sock (maybe a pair!) will emerge from this.
- 15:33 dammit. McDo Greenbelt drive thru gave me ONE apple pie when I ordered AND PAID for TWO. didn't check bag since i wanted to get home asap.
- 15:35 moral: never do drive-thru when hungry. and always check the demmed bag, never mind who's behind me.
- 16:31 my first sock is now in progress. dpns knitting not as bad as it looks, though it will take getting used to.
- 16:31 will need a larger size set of dpns once i master sock making. oh dear! ::sheepish grin::
